Overview

Overview

Come with us as we take you through the pulsating crowds, laughing, singing, and enjoying each other’s company. Children are playing and eating sweets, friends, neighbours, and family delight in this special day, this day of pleasure and letting go… But letting go of what?

Eid al-Fitr means the “Festival of breaking fast”, the end of 30 days of fasting during the season of Ramadan. Muslims around the world have just completed their month-long daily fast from sunup to sundown, and this holiday marks the moment of relief when they can satisfy their appetites and express joy, affection, and laughter with those they love.

Would you like to join in this worldwide celebration of humanity at its friendliest and most giving? Here’s how we join this very special holiday:

A Celebration And More

Yes, Eid al-Fitr is a holiday of generous partying, but also so much more. It’s a time of renewal, gratitude, and compassion. As the day begins, special prayers are offered, and expressions of giving and charity are everywhere. Children give their parents handmade cards, and they, in turn, are given gifts and money.

This is a special time of forgiveness, making amends, and donations are given to the poor, ensuring they can partake in the holiday’s events as well.

You’ll experience all this in the company of your experienced guide, who will be your conduit to local family gatherings and share insights about the cultural events, sights, and sounds that fill the neighbourhoods.

Evening Magic

As the sun begins to fade, the celebratory twinkling of traditional lanterns illuminates the great parties filling the streets and squares. Your guide will take you down Al-Mu’izz Street in the historic section of Cairo. You’ll join city’s revellers beneath the towers and minarets of stunning Islamic structures, an area known as the “golden living museum”. And then we will stop to dine at the iconic NaGuib Mahfouz Restaurant.

Here we will feast on authentic Egyptian cuisine with special sweets for the day, earning the holiday its nickname, “Sugar Feast”.

From there, we will continue our tour through the Khan El Khalili bazaar, one of Cairo’s most famous markets, where the sounds and colours of merchants, musicians, and storytellers will conjure the perfect atmosphere for this lavish moment.

A Call To Prayer

You can hear the evening call to prayer, and we’ll join with others reflecting on the excitement of the day and the larger currents of the holiday, those of personal renewal and commitment to cultural exchange, understanding, and self-reflection.

You will be participating in a long tradition of Eid celebration, dating back to the year 624, as observed by the Prophet Mohammed.

Based on the lunar calendar, observance of the holiday varies, and next year, 2026, we will be hosting the Eid al-Fitr festivities on March 19th and 20th. So book your reservations now for this most fascinating of celebrations.

Or, Celebrate in the Countryside

We offer another fun way to participate in this immersive holiday – One Horizon will bring you to a Nile Delta village to join the local families as they celebrate. The streets are draped in streamers and bright colors as everyone – the young, old, farmers, and townspeople turn out to enjoy each other’s company and give thanks.

You’ll be an honoured guest at this annual gala, and we’ll sit down to feast with the local folk, talking and laughing with them on this day of love and connection.

Just let us know in which setting you would like to spend Eid al-Fitr, the streets of Cairo or a Nile  village, and we will take care of everything!
