By becoming a member of AERA you support the training of young Egyptian archaeologists and the survey, mapping, excavation, and the analysis of archaeological sites. Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Cairo and Hotel Check-In
On arrival, our representative will warmly welcome you as you disembark, assist you through Customs and Immigration, and escort you to your hotel for check-in.
Optional Tour: Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to visit the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum. Please advise if you would like this included in your tour.
The Museum displays around 100,000 ancient artifacts spanning 7,000 years of Egyptian history. The main galleries are divided into four eras: predynastic and Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom, and Greco-Roman.
The main attraction is the full tomb collection of King Tutankhamun. The collection includes about 5,000 items and was relocated from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
In August 2021, the reconstructed Khufu ship, a solar barque, was relocated to the Grand Egyptian Museum from the Giza Solar Boat Museum beside the Great Pyramid.
The rest of the day is yours to relax and settle in. At 7:00 pm, you will be collected for your atmospheric Night Nile River Dinner Cruise.

Egypt is home to more than 100 pyramids, with the most famous and impressive standing proudly at Giza. The Great Pyramid was built for Pharaoh Khufu, whose father, Sneferu, built three pyramids during his lifetime. Your guide will bring these stories to life and add depth to this unforgettable experience.
The Sphinx
The Great Sphinx remains one of Egypt’s most evocative monuments. Its origins continue to inspire fascination and debate, adding an enduring sense of mystery to your visit to the Giza Plateau.
Saqqara
Saqqara is where the first ever stone pyramid was built. It dates to the 27th Century BC (4,693 years old). The pyramid is known as the Pyramid of Djoser (after the pharaoh of that name) or The Stepped Pyramid.
Today, Saqqara is the most important archaeological site in all of Egypt. It was designed by Imhotep, the architect of Djoser. The Step Pyramid stands at a height of 204 feet (62 meters) with six stepped layers.
You will also have the opportunity to explore inside the pyramid and enter recently discovered tombs, making this a truly memorable addition to your Cairo experience.

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization presents the richness, brilliance and innovation of Egyptian society through the ages.
Its themes include the Dawn of Civilization, The Nile, Writing, State and Society, Material Culture, Beliefs and Thinking, and the Gallery of Royal Mummies.
For travellers to Egypt, the museum offers a fascinating insight into the society Egyptians built from prehistoric times to the present day.
Old Cairo
Today’s touring also includes Old Cairo, where Roman, Christian and Islamic history sit side by side. This remarkable area forms part of Historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Islamic Cairo and the Citadel
The Citadel of Cairo is a medieval Islamic-era fortification built by Salah ad-Din. For nearly 700 years, it served as Egypt’s seat of government. Set high above the city, it offers a commanding position and remains one of Cairo’s most impressive historic landmarks.
The Alabaster (Muhammad Ali) Mosque
Within the Citadel is the Muhammad Ali Mosque. The mosque with its twin minarets is the most visible mosque in Cairo and is an active place of worship for Muslims.
Built between 1828 and 1848 at the highest point of the Citadel, the mosque was commissioned by Muhammad Ali in memory of his son, Tusun Pasha, who died in 1816.
Today, it is one of Cairo’s most visited sites and a memorable highlight of any visit to the city.
Coptic Cairo
Coptic Cairo is part of Old Cairo which encompasses the Babylon Fortress, the Coptic Museum, the Hanging Church, and many other Coptic historical sites.
It is believed in Christian tradition that the Holy Family visited this area and stayed at the site of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church.
The Khan El–Khalili Bazaar
Khan El-Khalili Bazaar is one of Cairo’s most colourful and atmospheric places to visit. Famous for its long history and locally made products, it offers an unforgettable taste of everyday Egyptian life.
Dating back to the 14th century, the bazaar remains a vibrant marketplace in the heart of Islamic Cairo. For travellers, it is a wonderful opportunity to browse, shop and experience the energy and character of the city.
Dinner at the Khan
Naguib Mahfouz Café & Restaurant is located in the heart of Khan El-Khalili and pays tribute to the Nobel Prize-winning author. The venue offers both a refined restaurant and a relaxed café setting, with authentic Middle Eastern and Egyptian dishes including grills, kofta, kebab and vegetarian options.

Day 4 – Final Day
At a time convenient to you, we will transfer you to the airport and assist with your final departure formalities.
Option 1: For guests with a later departure, you may like to enjoy some last-minute shopping at the Khan El Khalili, or visit Al–Azhar Park or the Grand Egyptian Museum (lunch included).
The Largest Park in Cairo
Al-Azhar Park is Cairo’s largest park, offering 72 acres of greenery in the heart of Old Cairo. Inspired by historic Islamic gardens, it features fountains, walkways, lake views and wonderful outlooks towards the Citadel. It is also a lovely place to pause for lunch at Granita Restaurant while enjoying views across the city.

The Grand Egyptian Museum.
The Museum displays around 100,000 ancient artifacts spanning 7,000 years of Egyptian history. It was open in 2025 and has become the centrepiece of Egyptian ‘must sees’

Dr Mark Lehner ranks amongst the most outstanding Egyptologists of the modern era. Within a select group of Egyptologists such as Petrie, Carter, Hawass and others, Mark has earned his international reputation based on over 40 years of conducting research and excavations in Egypt. His discoveries, such as the workers village close to the Giza Pyramids, and his academic treatise and publications have contributed greatly to the world’s understanding of ancient Egypt. Mark is also the founder of the Ancient Egyptians Research Associates (AERA) whose work includes training the next generation of Egyptian Egyptologists.
